Blessed to be part of a huge, close knit extended clan, families—whether born or made—play a huge part in my stories.
Having spent most of my life in or around varying bodies of water, many of my stories contain characters who also love boating, and creeks, and waterfalls, and the ocean. Not to mention fishing, and dogs, and fishing dogs, and gardening, and cooking and…
Coming from a family of craftspersons, being involved in learning about many, many different crafts myself—quite sure my parents and grands taught me a lot of somethings to stop me insatiably asking”why”—these also make quite a few appearances.
Nothing learned is ever wasted—except algebra—and my characters, as imaginary friends are wont to do, have taken on a great deal of my interests and hobbies. Such as hiking, and writing, and reading, and horseback riding, and just life in general. Since I hate one and dones, while most of my books aren't technically series, my characters frequently wander in and out of each others stories.
